Different Kite, Same Fan...

On Saturday we visited the Turbary Woods Owl and Bird of Prey Sanctuary. It is situated at the back of a Garden Center, so there is something for everyone! They put on some amazing flying displays. My favorite one on the day was with two Black Kites (above) and a Turkey Vulture. The Kites aerial agility is spectacular at such close quarters and the Turkey Vulture provides the interest to stop the Kites form flying away.
This owl (forgive me not remembering the type!) went into the most amazing display as the Turkey Vulture was taken past his cage. His wings were raised and he was swaying from foot to foot as a warning threat to the Vulture.

One of my favorite birds is the Barn Owl. After spending two memorable evenings last year watching one of these hunting, it was great to get the chance to see one really close up. They are such beautiful birds!

A Visit to Hollywood...

This weekend we visited the Wray Scarecrow Festival, in the Lune Valley, North Lancashire. It is a fascinating adoption of a traditional event. For a brief history watch this video. The festival has a yearly theme, this years was based on films. One of my favourites was the Birds. Some of the exhibits were very professionally done, including the Wizard of Oz characters below.

There is a great sense of humor underlying the whole event, with so many puns on the village name. Well worth a visit if you're looking for something different on a Bank Holiday Monday!
