Water, water, everywhere...
After the problems with the drought in the south, it was a real pleasure to visit Ingleton and do the Waterfall Walk. The day was dull and overcast, but the beauty of the Yorkshire Moors and the spectacular waterfalls and rugged beauty of the valleys more than compensated the lack of sunshine.
The tree stump above shows an unusual local custom, where coins are hammered into the tree. The reason for this activity seems to be unknown, but started about 60 years ago, when the tree was still living. If anyone knows the origin of this, I would love to hear from you about it.
The waterfall below, called Thornton Force, is the signature waterfall on the walk. It is possible to get right under the waterfall, as you are protected by a rock overhang.
